Gymnastics

Olivia started fall gymnastics today. We attended the summer session on Mondays but have decided to change to Wednesday because there is no Mommy & Me on Wednesday. The kids from Mommy & Me tend to get in the way of Olivia's class the majority of the time so we changed days. I sit and talk with another mother and they changed to Wednesdays as well. She is in the preschool class for 3, 4 & 5 year olds and they split the class up by ages. She is doing well. During the summer they didn't get on the trampoline at all and Olivia loves it so today when they got on it I could tell she was very excited. The teacher kept telling her to do different things and all she wanted to do was seat drops. I like the fact that the trampoline tires her out. If we had a backyard I think a trampoline would be a good investment. Oh well maybe the next house.

I need to learn how to use the camera. I know there is a way to take pictures while the subject is moving but I haven't figured it out yet. I guess I will have to get out the instructions. So some of the pictures are kind of blurry.

The Backyardigans

We went see The Backyardigans tonight at the Hobby Center and had a fun time. The show was really cute and Olivia seemed to enjoy it. The only negative thing was the fact that you weren't suppose to have food or drink in the theater. We didn't eat before we went to the show because I thought we would be able to have at least popcorn and a drink. I knew nothing about the Hobby Center but everytime we have gone to a show like this we have been able get something to eat and take it into the venue but since this is a theater I guess they don't want it to get dirty. Anyway you could purchase food and drinks but you had to eat/drink them before you entered the theater but the snacks didn't look good so we didn't get anything. Well unbeknownst to me people brought their own stash of drinks and snacks into the theater. Well by the time intermission comes along Olivia is hungry and to make matters worse nearly every kid around us is eating and drinking. So of course she is talking about wanting a snack and she is hungry and she wants to go home. Well going home was not and option so we told her we would get a snack after the show and that did seem to apease her somewhat. Another thing all the kids seemed to have was a magic want and Olivia loves magic wands so Daddy being the good Daddy that he is goes looking for one during intemission. He comes back empty handed... the line was too long. Poor Olivia by this time she has started to whine a little bit and still wants to go home. Thank goodness the lights go down and the show resumes and lasts only another 30 minutes. We are leaving the theater and Peter tells me Olivia wants something so I look over at her and she tells me she wants a magic wand so I go ahead them to get in line. Well they catch up with me and she has changed her mind and she wants Tasha. So Mommy being the good Mommy she is gets Olivia both. And we say our child is not spoiled.

Let the Games begin!

For the Olympics' opening ceremony, we ate take out Chinese and wore our Olympic t-shirts we bought while we were in China over 2 years ago. The Chinese did an amazing job. I was so proud of them. I didn't get to watch the whole thing but I am very excited to start watching the events.

Running red lights!

There is one thing I dislike about living in Houston. People running red lights. It drives me crazy. Today I was going to pick up Olivia from church and I get into the turning lane and the person in front of me continues straight. The light turns red and he is at least 20 to 30 feet from the intersection and he runs the red light and there are police all over that corner because they help the people in Greenway Plaza exit out of the parking garages. Plus there are traffic cameras at the intersection. There were so many people upset about the traffic cameras going in and they were complaining that it was against the law to put in the cameras. HELLO running a red light is against the law. Do people not realize that running a red light is dangerous and can cause a wreck? Not in Houston they don't. When I am the lead car at the light and the light turns green I will sit for just brief second to make sure that no one runs the light. There have been times that me doing this has saved me from getting in a wreck. I wish some people would just realize that it is not always about them.

Just a rainy lazy day!

It just rained all day. The wind didn't even blow where we live. Edouard shifted in the middle of the night (they always do) so we really didn't feel it too much accept for the rain and it really didn't rain that hard. Olivia's school was closed so we stayed home and played and layed around all day.

Tropical Storm Edouard

We should start to feel TS Edouard later on this evening. When I was watching the weather this morning it was said that it will take about 24 hours for Edouard to leave but who knows what kind of damage it will leave behind. Living in SE Texas the majority of my life I have gone through several tropical storms and have had to evacuate once with Hurricane Rita. The tropical storms and even a Cat 1 hurricane aren't too bad. Just alot of rain and wind. The neighborhood I live in only the streets flood so we may not be able to get out at all tomorrow and we may lose electricity. I am not that worried about it. I am just glad it is not any worse than it is because I never want to have to evacuate again. The thought of 14 hours on the road with a 3 year old doesn't sound like a lot of fun.

Saturday drive to the country

Yesterday, we sent to see my cousin and her husband. They live about 17 miles west of Huntsville in the "country". When we turned on the road they live on it was another 2 miles to get to their house and we had to go about 15 mph because it was a dirt road. When we got to the house we realized why they live out there... it is quiet.
Jana is a teacher and she has a guinea pig for the classroom but since it is summer Squishy is living in a cage in her living room. Olivia loved Squishy. She kept picking him up and giving him to either Jana or Peter. He would "talk" to you if you scratched his hind end.
We only stayed a couple of hours but is was nice to just get out of Houston for a little while. On the way home we saw a gas @ 3.69 at a Kroger in Conroe and since we have a Kroger card we could get an additional 10 cents off so we pulled off the highway and preceded to wait around 20 minutes with the windows rolled down in 100 degree weather to get gas for 3.59 a gallon. It was worth it considering gas in Houston is anywhere between 3.85 and 4.00 dollars a gallon. The things we do to save a little money.
Nice Squishy

Olivia Shining Mommy's Feet?

I was sitting in the recliner in our office and Olivia took off the armchair covers and preceded to "shine" my feet. I looked at Peter and he told me they saw a "shoe shiner" at the carwash today. It was so funny. Then she got a sqeaky toy and pretended to put lotion on my feet and them massaged them. I wished she would have massaged them a little longer.
